Odd Fellows Café is born of its neighborhood: the design inspiration rooted in the history of its beautiful building and the creation by a team that lives and works within a few blocks of the cafe. As a member of this team, Stanev Potts Architects was involved in both the Odd Fellows Building conversion & restoration, as well as the café design.
The lit wall sculpture, TOPO, was designed and fabricated by Stanev Potts Architects. Using the mountainous terrain of El Salvador (the birthplace of one of the owners) as conceptual source material, they extracted topographic sections and applied computational scripts to define an series of intricate surfaces.
TOPO’s 11 panels are each constructed from 113 individual laser cut elements of acrylic and plywood, laminated together, for a total of 1243 pieces and backed by LED strip lights. Laser cutting was provided by NextFab Studio, in West Philly.
